The Thracian Lowlands span the borders of Serbia, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey and the Black Sea, in essence, Greater Bulgaria. The wines of this area have been praised since Antiquity having been brought there from the Middle East. They have 52 PDO’s for growing grapes and an infinite range of indigenous varietals. There are many of these, Mavrud, Melnik, Misket, Rubin and Pamid to name but a few. Now, Europe (Europe Shares Programme)is promoting this region widely, recognising the history and potential of its Winemakers and for this we are grateful.Leah Newman is already known to many of you, hosting for us most recently a fantastic Canadian Tasting.
